Flying Man

Room 2 are working with the song Flying Man. We can sing it using correct pitch, echo parts of the rhythm, and complete parts of the rhythm. We are also learning to play it on marimba, this week we practised playing the bordun, we clicked our beaters together to the rhythm before beginning.

Room 11's Assembly Item

Room 11 students showed how clever they are by slowing down the "Cups" activity, we have been doing as a warm-up activity for their Music sessions, to perform during their assembly. We had been using the fast paced Washington Post March by John Phillip Sousa but they adapted to the slower beat of Six60's Special perfectly. I was so impressed with their timing!

Room 3 - Mallet Holding and Marimba Bordun

Room 3 practised how we hold marimba mallets and our marimba beating technique before learning and playing the bordun to a piece we are learning to play in parts called Flying Man. Clicking the mallets together also forms part of the rhythm percussion for the piece which we love to sing.

Have you ever ever ever in your long legged life seen a long legged sailor and his long legged wife?

Sing all that at the correct pitches, without getting tongue tided, while completing the accompanying clapping game...do the same for the short legged, bow legged, one legged, and knock kneed verses!

Room 11 you are so clever and have all the skills that good musicians need!

Room 1 Finding the Silent Beats - "Rests"

We know that there can be silent beats in a piece of music; they are called rests. When we are working with our rhythms we say "Za" for one-beat/crochet rests.

Room 1 played a game to the song 1, 2, 3, Johnny Caught a Flea to practise finding these Za rests.

All Aboard the Room 9 Rhythm Train

Recognise the ta, ti ti, and za rhythm on your boarding pass then call the next person by playing the second rhythm on the claves before jumping on the train. Room 9 you were amazing...well done for remembering so much from last year and for being so enthusiastic!
