Working in small groups on simple songs to practise chord changes from C to G.
Room 3 - Marimba Borduns and Melodies
Room 3 are soaring with their learning of Flying Man as a marimba arrangement. It is a piece they are familiar with from earlier in the year. They sharpened up their marimba skills at the start of the term with our pretend field trip to the amusement park. We rode bikes there to practise our beater/mallet holding and then made up our own rollercoaster ride sounds on the instruments...Room 3 have wanted to go back to the amusement park every week since.
Musicians might need a chair to be tall enough to play the bass but they can keep the bordun super steady under the melody
Room 8 - Ukulele
Room 8 have had a great start to their ukulele learning with everyone currently able to play a range of songs that use the chords C and G while some extend themselves to additional chords. We have been working on strumming patterns and chord changes.
Room 4 - Bounce
Room 4 have started learning the bass line for the marimba arrangement Bounce. Before playing we learnt the melody and rhythm by playing a ball game to the piece and then singing.
Term 3 2017
This term Piwakawaka students will focus on percussion, Tui students on marimba, and Kereru students on ukulele. Kahu students will organise their own project based on any area of the Arts from musical performances and creating compositions and instruments to film making and animation projects.
